How to prepare your student for fall school portraits
If you are purchasing pictures bring your envelope on photo day.
Dress neatly; solid jewel tones work better than patterns and graphics, and avoid bright whites because they take away from the subject. Please be sure to wear something appropriate. Be sure to sit up straight and listen to the photographers directions. All students will be photographed the same for the yearbook.
If you blink the photographer will take another photo.
Here are some commonly asked questions regarding the initial photo day
1) What is the difference between fall and spring portraits? Fall individual pictures, not only for your enjoyment, also go into the school's yearbook and are made for I.D. badges and administrative software such SASI. Children grow and change so quickly so we offer spring portraits with a special background to commemorate spring with an option to purchase. 2) What is Soft touch? 3) Will the original photograph or the retake be in the yearbook? We will try to use the retake photo, but there is no guarantee. (It is up to the yearbook staff in your school.) Our photography is done utilizing the digital process, therfore the retake photo overwrites the first. 4) Can additional packages be added when my child returns for a retake? Absolutely, just add the difference in money and be sure it is clearly marked. 5) I forgot my package; can I still retake my picture? Sorry, your portrait package has important barcode data on it and it is needed at the time of your retake.
6) My youngest child attends elementary school and needs to have his picture retaken. However my oldest child whose picture is fine and attends a middle school is having their makeup day tomorrow. Can my youngest child have their picture retaken at the middle school? It is not our normal policy because the elementary child will end up in the middle school records. Administrators have too much to worry about. We provide a retake at your school as well as an “In-studio” retake option.
7) Do you have combs? Yes, all photographers are required to bring a supply of disposable combs. 8) Can we (the students) keep their combs? No, it is against the health code and all combs must be discarded after one time use. 9) Our schedule says that you're starting at 9:30. Why are you here at 8:00? We arrive early in order to provide the best service, because it is important for us to be ready to go when the schedule says we start. It takes approximately one hour to set up our portable studio. 10) Why do we need more than one photographer? We try our best to produce a quality portrait for all students and faculty. 11) How much space do you need to set up your equipment? Approximately an 8' x 10' area. 12) Our space is limited. Can you take down your equipment (for lunch or another activity) and set it back up again to finish? No, time usually discourages this and in addition we need consistent results. 13) When will the pictures come in? Approximately four weeks from the time they are taken. 14) Do you do family portraits? Yes, by appointment only. 15) Can I write one check for all my children (in different grade levels)? Not recommended. Each child needs to bring his/her payment to the photographer individually on portrait day. 16) The flyer my child brought home only says "cash or money order". Can I still write a check and who do I make it out to? Why doesn't it say "Make Checks Payable To"? If by some chance you received a flyer that does not indicate payable by check, YES, you can still write a check payable to Duval Photo. 17) If you take more than one picture, why can't I choose the one I want? In order to ensure accurate records we only save a single image for each record. Our experienced staff is trained on what the school or organization is expecting and is consciences of the characteristics of a good portrait. 18) Why can't I wear a hat? We will be happy to photograph you in your hat for your own PURCHASED pictures. However, we will take another photograph for the school records and yearbooks because yearbooks are made to be consistent in content, therefore hats are not permitted unless for religious or medical reasons. 19) I forgot my picture order form can I still take a photo? Yes, all students our photographed for the yearbook regardless if they are ordering or not. In addition you will receive an order form instead of your picture package that will give you the opportunity to order. 20) Can I turn in an order form late? Yes, turn in your late order to the office. However you CANNOT order a Color Splash background, that is done at the time of pictures. 21) Can siblings have their picture taken together? Do I have to buy two packages? Yes we can photograph up to three individuals and only one package needs to be purchased. However, this must be approved through school officials because of logistical reasons. 22) Can a non-student sibling purchase a package and be photographed separately? Yes, before school and approved by school officials. The school will receive the package to be distributed back to the sibling. 23) It's my picture, why can't I pose, wear my hat, or use a prop? It is important that yearbooks must be made consistent for quality and content. 24) "I don't want to be in the yearbook, do I have to have my picture taken?" We need to photograph all students and faculty for cumulative folders and Admin Software; however students that don’t want to be in the yearbook must make arrangements with the school’s yearbook advisor. 25) How do I obtain a copyright release to place my school portraits on a mug and tee shirt? Duval Photographics can provide most specialty items that you may want or need even if you don’t see them on an order form. Please call our office with any special requests. You may also purchase a copyright release on school portraits for $8.00. 26) How long will it take to get my pictures back? Approximately four weeks. SENIOR PORTRAITS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - Here are some commonly asked questions regarding senior portraits
1) Why Duval Photo? Duval Photographics has been chosen as your official yearbook portrait photographer by your school. This was based on the quality of our work, superior customer service and competitive prices. Duval Photo portraits are the only portraits that will appear in the Senior section of your yearbook. You can be assured that school representatives had you best interests in mind when they selected Duval Photo. 2) Why was my session scheduled for me? Due to strict deadlines set by the publishers of the school yearbook it is important that we photograph all students in a timely manner. To insure that all students are photographed in time to be inserted in the yearbook we bulk schedule appointments. 3) What if I can't make the session that was scheduled for me? If you have a schedule conflict with your session and are unable to make it, just give us a call ASAP to get you rescheduled. 4) Why do I have to wear a tuxedo/drape in my yearbook picture? The guidlines that are set by the school are to insure that the yearbook is uniform and the best presentation possible. 5) What if I want something more casual? Simply let a studio representative know and we will upgrade your session to include a scenic background and a change in outfit. 6) What if I just go to another portrait photographer? All seniors who wish to have their portrait published in the yearbook must be photographed by Duval Photographics. 7) Do I need to have my hair/make-up done before I show up? We strongly suggest you do this ahead of time. While we do have a space for you to do your make-up, we cannot provide any make-up or gromming items for your use due to health regulations. 8) What happens next? proofs will be sent directly to your home about 3-4 weeks from the date you were photographed. Proofs are for the purpose of selecting a pose for your yearbook and portrait order. 9) Why do I have to pay a $50 deposit? The deposit is to hav4e your proofs mailed to your home. This deposit will be applied towards the purchase of your portrait order. If you choose not to order, once you have selected your yearbook pose and returned your proofs we will refund your deposit. 10) What if I don't want proofs, do I still have to pay the deposit? No, if you choose not to have your proofs mailed home, and simply wish to view your proofs online or have one of our studio representatives select the pose for the yearbook you will not be required to make a $50 deposit. 11) What happens if I don't turn in my yearbook selection? One of our representatives or a representative from the school will pick the pose for the yearbook. 12) What if I want something outdoors? We have a variety of locations available outdoors and will usually make available a day at a prime location for outdoor portraits. 13) When will the pictures come in? Approximately four to five weeks from the time they are taken. 14) What if I can't afford it right now? No problem, simply pay what you can. We need 50% paid to begin the process and the account paid in full upon delivery. We will be happy to work with you on scheduling a payment plan. 15) What ifs a unit/group? A unit or grouping is a standard used by the photography industry for print sizes and relationships. Below is a sampling of units/groups.
SPORTS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - Here are some commonly asked questions regarding the initial photo day
1) What is a sportsmate? A Sportsmate is includes a 3x5 individual and a 5x7 team photo on one sheet. Our Sportsmate is similar to a traditional memory mate that you may be used to, but instead of small prints in a generic cardboard stand, our prints come on one sheet with custome graphics ready for easy framing. 2) What if I don't want to do the pose the that everyone else is doing? Our photographers are trained to photograph the subject in the best possible way to highlight the player, but, this is only a suggestion. You are paying for the portraits and we will be happy to accomodate you in any way. If you choose you own pose however, and you are not happy with your poratraits you may not be eligible for a refund. 3) What if I can't make the time my team is scheduled? If you can't make the specific time your team is scheduled, come when you can. Our system allows you to be photographed at any point during the shoot date, however you may not be in the team photo. 4) Are pictures available online? We will post the pictures online when we deliver the packages. All pictures are password protected though, and if you did not order a package you will not receive a password. In addition all packages online are at reorder prices and some package options may not be available . 5) Can you do action photos? Yes, we are a full service studio providing individual and team portraits in addition to action photography. We provide action photography services at most leagues or franchises that we work with. We provide instant prints as well as custom composites in a variety of sizes. Here are some samples below. 6) When will the pictures come in?
